I've always felt that a great logo is a logo that says the most in the simplest way possible. I have 5 key attributes that I try to incorporate into each logo design. If the end product can embody these attributes then it usually is a great logo.
Those key attributes are:
1. SIMPLE
2. MEMORABLE
3. TIMELESS
4. VERSATILE
5. APPROPRIATE
