Ballistic Packaging
Creative Direction / Art Direction / 3D Design / Package Design
Ballistic needed a complete package redesign for their protective phone cases. The old packaging seen here didn't prove well with consumers as it was dated, and not very appealing. Not to mention that the case itself was hidden from view.
After sitting in focus group sessions designed to determine the key factors played a role in protective phone case purchases, I came up with a few options to work from seen below.
One key element that sets Ballistic apart from other case companies was their HexTec™ technology. Since devices tend to land on their corners more often than any other part, they reinforced them with shock-proof silicone bumpers. I wanted the corners to play into the design of the packaging.
These new concepts tested well with consumers. Ultimately the budget would only allow for a back card blister package, instead of the plastic cases seen in the first two examples.

The final packaging drove 6 times the velocity at their largest retailer, a higher conversion rate than otter or griffin and expected to drive 10% more in sales for Ballistic. It also brings in 2-3% new category purchases and drove trade-up $2-4 per case.
